Engin "enduruppbygging" ķ Ķrak

iraqFyrir nokkrum mįnušum sķšan ętlaši allt um koll aš keyra žegar blašamenn og sumir stjórnmįlamenn vildu fara aš nota oršiš "borgarastrķš" um upplausnarįstandiš ķ Ķrak. Bush tapaši žeirri rimmu, og ķ dag nota bandarķkjamenn oršiš "borgarastrķš" nokkuš frjįlslega. Fyrir vikiš viršist vķglķnan ķ žessum oršskilgreiningarstrķšum hafa fęrst, žvķ nś deila menn um hvort žaš megi segja aš strķšiš sé tapaš eša ekki.

Ķ ljósi žess aš žaš koma engar góšar fréttir frį Ķrak, og ekkert bendir til žess aš Bandarķkjamenn geti į endanum "sigraš" žetta strķš - eša nįš neinum af upprunalegum markmišum - finnst mér nokkuš ljóst aš strķšiš er tapaš. Ein réttlęting stjórnarinnar fyrir žvķ aš hermenn fįi aš vera įfram ķ Ķrak til žess aš lįta sprengja sig ķ loft upp hefur veriš aš įn hersins sé engin leiš til aš vinna allt hiš óeigingjarna og mikilvęga enduruppbyggingarstarf sem stjórnin taldi okkur trś um aš vęri naušsynleg til aš "vinna hugi og hjörtu" Ķraka. Nś kemur ķ ljós aš žessi uppbygging er ķ jafn mikilli upplausn og jafn misheppnuš og öll önnur verkefni sem Bush kemur nįlęgt. Skv New York Times:

Inspectors Find Rebuilt Projects Crumbling in Iraq

In a troubling sign for the American-financed rebuilding program in Iraq, inspectors for a federal oversight agency have found that in a sampling of eight projects that the United States had declared successes, seven were no longer operating as designed because of plumbing and electrical failures, lack of proper maintenance, apparent looting and expensive equipment that lay idle.

The United States has previously admitted, sometimes under pressure from federal inspectors, that some of its reconstruction projects have been abandoned, delayed or poorly constructed. But this is the first time inspectors have found that projects officially declared a success in some cases, as little as six months before the latest inspections were no longer working properly. ...

At the maternity hospital, a rehabilitation project in the northern city of Erbil, an expensive incinerator for medical waste was padlocked — Iraqis at the hospital could not find the key when inspectors asked to see the equipment — and partly as a result, medical waste including syringes, used bandages and empty drug vials were clogging the sewage system and probably contaminating the water system.

The newly built water purification system was not functioning either. ...

Curiously, most of the problems seemed unrelated to sabotage stemming from Iraq’s parlous security situation, but instead were the product of poor initial construction, petty looting, a lack of any maintenance and simple neglect.

Žaš eru aušvitaš ekki fréttir fyrir flest fólk aš žaš sé upplausn ķ Ķrak, en žaš veršur aš hafa ķ huga aš Bush hefur haldiš žvķ fram aš "progress is being made", aš herinn sé aš vinna mikiš og óeigingjarnt enduruppbyggingarstarf. Öll verkefnin sem endurskošunin tók til höfšu fengiš "mission accomplished" stimpil frį stjórninnu. Ef verkefnin sem stjórnin tilkynnir aš séu "tilbśin" eru ķ upplausn eša glötuš, hvaš žį meš öll hin uppbyggingarverkefnin?

The new findings come after years of insistence by American officials in Baghdad that too much attention has been paid to the failures in Iraq and not enough to the successes.

Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh, commander of the Gulf Region Division of the Army Corps, told a news conference in Baghdad late last month that with so much coverage of violence in Iraq “what you don’t see are the successes in the reconstruction program, how reconstruction is making a difference in the lives of everyday Iraqi people.”

Randall L. Tobias submitted his resignation Friday, one day after confirming to ABC News that he had been a customer of a Washington, D.C. escort service whose owner has been charged by federal prosecutors with running a prostitution operation.

Tobias, eins og sjónvarpspredķkarinn Ted Haggard, sem einnig notfęrši sér svipaša žjónustu (reyndar mannaša karlmönnum), heldur žvķ reyndar fram aš žetta hafi allt veriš afskaplega saklaust. Enda er mašurinn giftur! Semsagt, hann var alltaf svo stiršur eftir aš hafa veriš aš berjast viš fįtękt og alnęmi allan daginn, aš hann žurfti aš fį "nudd":

On Thursday, Tobias told ABC News he had several times called the "Pamela Martin and Associates" escort service "to have gals come over to the condo to give me a massage."   Tobias, who is married, said there had been "no sex," and that recently he had been using another service "with Central Americans" to provide massages

Sko!

The message to young people in the schools is not either ‘Be abstinent or here are condoms, take your pick.’ It is a message of ‘Be abstinent.’ Delaying sexual activity is a means of eliminating the risk of infection.

Žaš er eitthvaš alveg sérlega ógešfellt viš hręsni į borš viš žessa.

Forsetaframbjóšendur demokrata ķ kappręšum

The somewhat united frontŽetta fór vķst fullkomlega framhjį mér: forsetaframbjóšendur demokrata hittust allir og héldu kappręšur hvor viš annan. Meginefni ręšuhaldanna skilst mér žó aš hafi fyrst og fremst veriš hver žeirra vęri mest į móti strķšinu ķ Ķrak. Samkvęmt fréttum viršist Obama hafa veriš stjarna kvöldsins, en Dennis Kuchinich, sem allir vita aš į sennilega jafn mikinn séns ķ aš vinna tilnefningu flokksins og Don Imus, viršist žó hafa nįš aš fanga athygli įhorfenda. Washington Post:

For 90 mostly low-keyed minutes, the Democratic candidates offered a somewhat united front in denouncing Mr. Bush for the way he handled the war and saying that they should work to assemble the votes to try to override Mr. Bush’s expected veto.

Ég veit ekki alveg hvaš žetta "somewhat united front" į aš fyrirstilla - kannski aš sumir, eins og Kuchinich og Mike Gravel vilja vantraustsyfirlżsingar į stjórnina, og sennilega helst aš forsetinn verši dreginn śt į tśn, tjargašur og fišrašur:

At one point, Mike Gravel, a former Senator from Alaska, said he wanted Congress to pass a law “making it a felony” for the administration to stay in Iraq.

Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama appeared slack-jawed as Mr. Gravel loudly made his argument.

CNN segir aš žaš hafi ekki veriš neinn "sigurvegari" ķ žessum kappręšum:

"I'm not sure there was a stand-out in this," she said. "I thought it was a pretty mellow debate. You didn't see any blood spilled. You didn't see any real confrontation."

"There was some at the end, but it wasn't the kind of thing that you get in the heat of the moment when a primary election is about to come up. I think what this debate did was serve that beginning mark for these Democrats."

As midterm elections approached last November, federal investigators in Arizona faced unexpected obstacles in getting needed Justice Department approvals to advance a corruption investigation of Republican Rep. Rick Renzi, people close to the case said.

The delays, which postponed key approvals in the case until after the election, raise new questions about whether Attorney General Alberto Gonzales or other officials may have weighed political issues in some investigations....

Investigators pursuing the Renzi case had been seeking clearance from senior Justice Department officials on search warrants, subpoenas and other legal tools for a year before the election, people close to the case said....

...the investigation clearly moved slowly: Federal agents opened the case no later than June 2005, yet key witnesses didn't get subpoenas until early this year, those close to the case said. The first publicly known search -- a raid of a Renzi family business by the Federal Bureau of Investigation -- was carried out just last week....

...the Renzi case -- like many that involve members of Congress -- is being handled jointly by the local U.S. attorney and the department's public-integrity section. In such cases, a senior department official must approve requests for wiretaps and warrants and other formal legal steps.

Žaš fer yfirleitt mjög lķtiš fyrir žessari skrifstofu, og fjölmišlar hér vestra lżsa henni sem "an obscure federal investigative unit", ašallega vegna žess aš embęttiš lętur hįttsetta embęttismenn yfirleitt ķ friši.

Žaš vekur žvķ óneitanlega athygli aš OSC skuli hafa hafiš rannsókn į embęttisfęrslum og umsvifum Karl Rove! Skv. LA Times:

...the Office of Special Counsel is preparing to jump into one of the most sensitive and potentially explosive issues in Washington, launching a broad investigation into key elements of the White House political operations that for more than six years have been headed by chief strategist Karl Rove.

The new investigation, which will examine the firing of at least one U.S. attorney, missing White House e-mails, and White House efforts to keep presidential appointees attuned to Republican political priorities, could create a substantial new problem for the Bush White House.

First, the inquiry comes from inside the administration, not from Democrats in Congress. Second, unlike the splintered inquiries being pressed on Capitol Hill, it is expected to be a unified investigation covering many facets of the political operation in which Rove played a leading part.

Įstęša rannsóknarinnar er vitaskuld aš nafn Karl Rove hefur komiš óešlilega oft upp ķ tengslum viš grunsamlegar embęttisfęrslur. Žaš er einfaldlega of margt sem bendir til žess aš Rove hafi beitt įhrifum sķnum innan Hvķta Hśssins til žess aš žrżsta į rķkisstarfsmenn til aš taka pólķtķskar įkvaršanir, eša haga embęttisfęrslu sinni meš žeim hętti aš žaš žjónaši hagsmunum Repśblķkanaflokksins.

The question of improper political influence over government decision-making is at the heart of the controversy over the firing of U.S. attorneys and the ongoing congressional investigation of the special e-mail system installed in the White House and other government offices by the Republican National Committee.

All administrations are political, but this White House has systematically brought electoral concerns to Cabinet agencies in a way unseen previously.

For example, Rove and his top aides met each year with presidential appointees throughout the government, using PowerPoint presentations to review polling data and describe high-priority congressional and other campaigns around the country.

Some officials have said they understood that they were expected to seek opportunities to help Republicans in these races, through federal grants, policy decisions or in other ways.

Bloch said the new investigation grew from two narrower inquiries his staff had begun in recent weeks.

One involved the fired U.S. attorney from New Mexico, David C. Iglesias.

The other centered on a PowerPoint presentation that a Rove aide, J. Scott Jennings, made at the General Services Administration this year.

That presentation listed recent polls and the outlook for battleground House and Senate races in 2008. After the presentation, GSA Administrator Lorita Doan encouraged agency managers to "support our candidates," according to half a dozen witnesses. Doan said she could not recall making such comments.

Nei, žvķ starfsmenn Hvķta Hśssins eru allir minnislausir žorskar? Ósvķfni Rove er reyndar ansi merkileg - žvķ hann sat sjįlfur yfir fjölda funda, og žaš er žvķ fjöldi vitna aš žessum umsvifum hans öllum. Rove, og talsmenn Hvķta Hśssins, hafa bent į aš žaš sé ekkert óešlilegt viš aš rķkisstarfsmenn og pólķtķskt skipašir embęttismenn, sitji fyrirlestra žar sem rętt sé um stjórnmįl. Žaš vekur hins vegar grunsemdir hversu oft žessir fundir voru haldnir, og efni žeirra, og skilaboš - aš verkefni allra rķkisstarfsmanna vęri aš tryggja įframhaldandi valdasetu repśblķkana - eru hins vegar frekar vafasöm:

During such presentations, employees said they got a not-so-subtle message about helping endangered Republicans. ... Whether legal or not, the multiple presentations revealed how widely and systematically the White House sought to deliver its list of electoral priorities.

---

OSC, undir stjórn Scott J. Bloch, veršur seint sökuš um aš vera einhverskonar handbendi demokrataflokksins - Bloch var skipašur af Bush fyrir žremur įrum, og hafši fram til žess veriš ķ dómsmįlarįšuneytinu, žar sem hann vann fyrir "the Task Force for Faith-based and Community Initiatives". Bloch viršist lķka vera fanatķskur sišapostuli - hann hefur ofsótt samkynhneigša undirmenn og bannaš kvenkyns starfsmönnum aš ganga ķ of stuttum pilsum... Žó žaš séu ekki öll kurl komin til grafar viršist žetta mįl žvķ varla afskrifaš sem einhverjar "liberal" ofsóknir.

UPDATE:

Žeir sem efast um pólķtķskt inntak žessara fyrirlestra er bent į C-Span upptöku af žingyfirheyrslu yfir General Services Administration Chief Lurita Doan fyrir nokkrum vikum sķšan. Ašstošarmašur Rove hélt einn af fyrirlestrum sķnum į skrifstofu Doan, sem žykist ekki muna eftir fundinum... Bruce Braley, žingmašur demokrata, sżnir Powerpoint skyggnur fyrirlestrarins, en Doan getur ekki gefiš neinar skynsamlegar skżringar į žvķ af hverju "saklaus" fyrirlestur um stjórnmįlaįstand snśist allur um kosningarnar 2008, hvaša kjördęmi séu "House Targets", hver "Senate Targets", ķ hvaša fylkjum séu tękifęri fyrir "Republican Offense," eša "Republican Defense." Samkvęmt vitnum į fundinum į Doan aš hafa spurt hvernig skrifstofa hennar gęti "hjįlpaš okkar frambjóšendum".

Alltsaman afskaplega saklaust?

American "Family" Association kennir skorti į rasskellingum um fjöldamoršin ķ Virginķu

Žaš hefur veriš įhugavert aš fylgjast meš žvķ hvernig sumir sjįlfskipašir talsmenn sišgęšis og fjölskyldugilda hafa brugšist viš fjöldamoršunum ķ Virginķu (svo ekki sé talaš um žį sem hafa įhyggjur af skorti į "karlmennsku" ķ nśtķmasamfélagi). Skżringarnar hafa allar veriš į einn veg: Fjöldamoršin eru bein afleišing "liberal culture". Žetta er augljóst mįl: Ungur vitfirrtur mašur kaupir sér byssur og drepur samnemendur sķna vegna žess aš vinstrimenn hafa barist fyrir žvķ aš stjórnvöld virši įkvęši stjórnarskrįnnar um ašskilnaš rķkis og kirkju.

Žaš sem gerir žetta fyrirlitlega upphlaup sumra hęgrimanna žeim mun athyglisveršara er aš ašrir hęgrimenn voru fljótir aš gagnrżna vinstrimenn um aš vilja "exploit the tragedy" meš žvķ aš fara aš tala um naušsyn žess aš lög um vopnaeign vęru hert. Žetta er svosem augljóst mįl lķka: Umręša um vopnalög ķ kjölfar žess aš vitfirrtur ungur mašur kaupir sér byssur og drepur samnemendur sķna er "exploitation of a tragedy"...

American Family Association hefur nś sent frį sér myndband "The Day They Kicked God out of the Schools", sem śtskżrir fjöldamoršin "we reap what we sow", og syndir okkar eru vķst margar og alvarlegar, en žaš sem mér fannst žó standa upp śr er aš ef viš bara rasskelltum börn meira, og leyfšum kennurum aš lemja žau lķka, myndi ofbeldi og byssuglępir hverfa!

Svar Bush viš kröfum um aš Gonzales segi af sér: "Screw you"

Karl Rove flips the North American birdEftir hörmulega frammistöšu Dómsmįlarįšherra Bush, Alberto Gonzales fyrir žingnefnd hafa bandarķskir fjölmišlar nokkurnveginn allir komist aš sömu nišurstöšu: Žaš sé bara tķmaspursmįl hvenęr dómsmįlarįšherran verši lįtinn fjśka. Fjölmišlar benda į aš Gonzales eigi nįnast enga stušningsmenn innan Repśblķkanaflokksins - ašeins einn repśblķkani ķ dómsmįlanefnd öldungadeildarinnar hefur lżst yfir stušningi viš Gonzales, mešan ašrir hafa krafist žess opinberlega aš hann segi af sér. Skv. New York Times:

Not a single Republican, with the possible exception of Senator Orrin G. Hatch of Utah, came to Mr. Gonzales's defense — not even his old Texas friend Senator John Cornyn. And Mr. Gonzales did not help himself with his testimony that while he took full responsibility for removing federal prosecutors, he did not have a clear idea of why he had done so in some cases until he reviewed paperwork after the dismissals.

Įhrifamiklir ķhaldsmenn ķ Repśblķkanaflokknum hafa krafist žess aš Gonzales segi af sér, žeirra į mešal Tom Coburn:

On Thursday, one did: Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, who told Mr. Gonzales pointedly that he should resign. "I believe you ought to suffer the consequences that these others have suffered," the senator said, referring to the United States attorneys who had been forced out. Mr. Coburn added that he believed "the best way to put this behind us is your resignation."

One White House adviser (who asked not to be ID’ed talking about sensitive issues) said the support reflected Bush’s own view that a Gonzales resignation would embolden the Dems to go after other targets — like Karl Rove. “This is about Bush saying, ‘Screw you’,” said the adviser, conceding that a Gonzales resignation might still be inevitable. The trick, said the adviser, would be to find a graceful exit strategy for Bush’s old friend.

Framangreind ummęli heimildamanns Newsweek benda enda ķ žessa įtt: Forsetinn vill ekki reka Gonzales, žvķ žaš myndi "embolden the Dems to go after other targets — like Karl Rove."

Repśblķkanar sem hafa krafist žess aš Gonzales segi af sér

Listi yfir öldungadeildaržingmenn og fulltrśadeildaržingmenn Repśblķkana sem hafa krafist žess aš Gonzales segi af sér, eša hafa lżst žvķ yfir aš žeir styšji hann ekki lengur:

Öldungadeildin:

  • Sen. John Sununu (R-NH)- "The president should fire the attorney general and replace him as soon as possible with someone who can provide strong, aggressive leadership."
  • Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR)- "For the Justice Department to be effective before the U.S. Senate, it would be helpful."
  • Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK): "I believe you ought to suffer the consequences that these others have suffered. I believe the best way for us to put this behind us is your resignation."
  • Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)- "There are some problems that he just hasn't handled well, and it might just be best if he came to a conclusion that the department is better served if he's not there.'"
  • Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)- "Sometimes, it just came down to these were not the right people at the right time. If I applied that standard to you, what would you say?"
  • Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA)- "For you to have said this was an ‘overblown personnel matter,’ I think that can't be erased. And the clouds over a lot of the professionals can't be erased and the worry by those who haven’t been subjected to those clouds can't be erased. Now, I’m not going call for you resignation; I'm not going to make a recommendation on that. I think there are two people that have to decide that question. You have to decide it in the first instance. If you decide to stay on, it’s up to the President to decide."

Žingiš:

  • Rep. Vern Elhers (R-MI)- "Since he's such a close, personal friend, he's hurt the President by what he's doing, he should have the politeness to offer his resignation."
  • Rep. Paul Gillmor (R-OH)- 'Given the totality of the circumstances, I think it would be better for the President and the Department if the Attorney General were to step down."
  • Rep. Dana Rohrbacher (R-CA)- "Even for Republicans this is a warning sign … saying there needs to be a change."
  • Rep. Lee Terry (R-NE)- "Frankly, until these statements came out that contradicted his first statement, I was backing him, saying that he shouldn't resign. Now I think that he should."

Žó žaš sé kannski full snemmt aš segja aš Gonzales sé bśinn aš vera, getur varla veriš langt ķ aš hann horfist ķ augu viš hiš óumflżjanlega.

Gonzales getur ekki munaš hvort hann var ķ vinnunni, hvaš hann boršaši ķ morgunmat, hvort hann sé raunverulga dómsmįlarįšherra...

Žessi įhorfandi fylgdist meš žvķ hversu oft Gonzales žóttist vera bśinn aš gleyma einhverju - takiš eftir USMC tattśinu. USMC žżšir United States Marine Corps. Hvenęr sįum viš sķšast reiša veterans mótmęla spilltri rķkisstjórn...? Vietnam og Nixon - Ķrak og Bush

Gonzales kom ekki sérlega vel śt śr yfirheirslunni, og tókst engan veginn aš sannfęra įhorfendur um aš hann vęri aš segja sannleikann - eša aš bjóša upp į sęmilega sannfęrandi afsakanir eša śtskżringar. Skv. NYT:

In more than five hours of often-combative testimony, Mr. Gonzales, grim-faced, clasping his hands and hunched over, struggled to offer a coherent explanation for the dismissals. He apologized for his mistakes in what he said was a flawed process, but defended the removal of eight United States attorneys as proper.

Gonzales kom sér undan žvķ aš svara spurningum nefndarmanna, og bar stöšugt viš lélegu minni:

His performance clearly exasperated the committee members, who were angered as he invoked a faulty memory more than 50 times ...

Skv. Washington Post fyrir tveimur vikum:

Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales has retreated from public view this week [2-6 aprķl!] in an intensive effort to save his job, spending hours practicing testimony and phoning lawmakers for support in preparation for pivotal appearances in the Senate this month, according to administration officials.

Leišari New York Times um yfirheirslu gęrdagsins segir žetta um framburš Gonzales: "Some of his answers were merely laughable.":

If Attorney General Alberto Gonzales had gone to the Senate yesterday to convince the world that he ought to be fired, it’s hard to imagine how he could have done a better job, short of simply admitting the obvious: that the firing of eight United States attorneys was a partisan purge.

Mr. Gonzales came across as a dull-witted apparatchik incapable of running one of the most important departments in the executive branch.

He had no trouble remembering complaints from his bosses and Republican lawmakers about federal prosecutors who were not playing ball with the Republican Party’s efforts to drum up election fraud charges against Democratic politicians and Democratic voters. But he had no idea whether any of the 93 United States attorneys working for him — let alone the ones he fired — were doing a good job prosecuting real crimes.

He delegated responsibility for purging their ranks to an inexperienced and incompetent assistant who, if that’s possible, was even more of a plodding apparatchik. Mr. Gonzales failed to create the most rudimentary standards for judging the prosecutors’ work, except for political fealty. And when it came time to explain his inept decision making to the public, he gave a false account that was instantly and repeatedly contradicted by sworn testimony.

Even the most loyal Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee found it impossible to throw Mr. Gonzales a lifeline. ...

Vandamįliš er aš Gonzales gat ekki śtskżrt neitt fyrir žinginu: Hann gat ekki varpaš neinu ljósi į brottrekstur saksóknararanna - hver įkvaš hvaša saksóknara ętti aš reka eša hvernig žessir saksóknarar voru valdir.

Mr. Gonzales was even unable to say who compiled the list of federal attorneys slated for firing. The man he appointed to conduct the purge, Kyle Sampson, said he had not created the list. The former head of the office that supervises the federal prosecutors, Michael Battle, said he didn’t do it, as did William Mercer, the acting associate attorney general.

Mr. Gonzales said he did not know why the eight had been on the list when it was given to him, that it had not been accompanied by any written analysis and that he had just assumed it reflected a consensus of the senior leaders of his department. At one point, Mr. Gonzales even claimed that he could not remember how the Justice Department had come to submit an amendment to the Patriot Act that allowed him to fire United States attorneys and replace them without Senate confirmation. The Senate voted to revoke that power after the current scandal broke. ...

Hvernig getur dómsmįlarįšhe Bandarķkjanna bśist viš žvķ aš viš trśum žvķ aš hann hafi ekki hugmynd um hvernig įkvaršanir į borš viš žessar eru teknar?

At the end of the day, we were left wondering why the nation’s chief law-enforcement officer would paint himself as a bumbling fool. Perhaps it’s because the alternative is that he is not telling the truth. There is strong evidence that this purge was directed from the White House, and that Karl Rove, Mr. Bush’s top political adviser, and Harriet Miers, the former White House counsel, were deeply involved. ...

We don’t yet know whether Mr. Gonzales is merely so incompetent that he should be fired immediately, or whether he is covering something up.

But if we believe the testimony that neither he nor any other senior Justice Department official was calling the shots on the purge, then the public needs to know who was. That is why the Judiciary Committee must stick to its insistence that Mr. Rove, Ms. Miers and other White House officials testify in public and under oath and that all documents be turned over to Congress, including e-mail messages by Mr. Rove that the Republican Party has yet to produce.

In the search last Friday, the FBI had a warrant for information connected with a fundraising business run by Doolittle's wife, Julie, that had done work for convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff. ...

Doolittle's ties to Abramoff have come under scrutiny in the corruption investigation that has sent one former Republican congressman, Bob Ney of Ohio, to prison on a guilty plea to charges of conspiracy and making false statements, and produced convictions against two senior Bush administration officials and several congressional aides.

Doolittle var ekki bara vinur Abramoff, heldur lķka Tom DeLay. Lķkur sękir lķkan heim!

Doolittle, a conservative from Roseville in northern California, is an ally of former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. Doolittle called Abramoff a friend and the two had numerous connections. Doolittle accepted tens of thousands of dollars in campaign cash from Abramoff

Little is known about the inquiries into Renzi’s activities, but according to media reports the Justice Department has been running a two-track investigation into Renzi regarding a land deal, as well as a piece of legislation he helped steer that may have improperly benefited a major campaign contributor. It was not immediately clear which investigation the raid pertained to, and neither his attorney nor his spokesman could be immediately reached for comment.

Renzi og BushAlrķkislögreglan hefur veriš į höttunum eftir Renzi ķ nokkurn tķma - og žegar alrķkissaksóknarinn ķ Arizona var rekinn af Gonzales voru uppi vangaveltur um aš žaš hafi m.a. veriš hefnd fyrir aš hann hafi leyft rannsókninni aš fara af staš. (CREW, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, er meš frekari upplżsingar um Renzi į lista sķnum yfir 20 spilltustu žingmenn 109 löggjafaržingsins. Skżrsla žeirra um Renzi er hér)

Viš eigum vafalaust eftir aš heyra meira um Renzi og Doolittle į nęstu vikum og mįnušum. Žaš er aldrei aš vita aš žessi spillingar og vandręšamįl flokksins endist śt kjörtķmabiliš og kosningarnar 2008 muni lķka snśast um spillingu Repśblķkanaflokksins?
