Gonzales stašinn aš žvķ aš ljśga aš žinginu

Heišarleiki og mannkostir eru einkunnarorš BushstjórnarinnarWashington Post greinir frį žvķ ķ morgun aš Alberto Gonzales hafi fengiš afhenta skżrslu, sem greindi ķ smįatrišum frį margvķslegum brotum alrķkislögreglunnar į The Patriot Act, sex dögum įšur en hann mętti fyrir žingiš og lżsti žvķ stašfastlega yfir aš hann vissi ekki um eitt einasta tilfelli žess aš FBI hefši brotiš umrędd lög.

Aš vķsu er ekki hęgt aš sanna aš Gonzales hafi raunverulega lesiš skżrsluna - og žaš er sömuleišis jafn lķklegt aš honum hefši tekist aš gleyma henni, og öllu innihaldi hennar, į žessum sex dögum sem lišu milli žess sem hann fékk hana afhenta og žess aš hann bar vitni fyrir žinginu. Gonzales, eins og allir vita, er nefnilega meš Alzheimers į mjög alvarlegu stķgi - hann situr fundi sem hann kannast svo ekki viš, skrifar undir pappķra sem hann kannast ekki viš aš hafa séš, og man yfirleitt ekki neitt, stundinni lengur...

As he sought to renew the USA Patriot Act two years ago, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales assured lawmakers that the FBI had not abused its potent new terrorism-fighting powers. "There has not been one verified case of civil liberties abuse," Gonzales told senators on April 27, 2005.

Six days earlier, the FBI sent Gonzales a copy of a report that said its agents had obtained personal information that they were not entitled to have. It was one of at least half a dozen reports of legal or procedural violations that Gonzales received in the three months before he made his statement to the Senate intelligence committee, according to internal FBI documents released under the Freedom of Information Act. ...

NYT:

Known inside the agency as the “family jewels,” the 702 pages of documents released Tuesday catalog domestic wiretapping operations, failed assassination plots, mind-control experiments and spying on journalists from the early years of the C.I.A.

The papers provide evidence of paranoia and occasional incompetence as the agency began a string of illegal spying operations in the 1960s and 1970s, often to hunt links between Communist governments and the domestic protests that roiled the nation in that period.

Og hverskonar gleši og sprell skyldu starfsmenn leynižjónustunnar hafa fundiš upp į? Ķ ljós kemur aš leynižjónustan var jafn galin og starfsmenn hersins, sem į tķunda įratugnum ętlušu aš finna upp "hommunarsprengju". Ķ ljós kemur aš starfsmenn leynižjónustunnar hafi hleraš hótelherbergi ķ Las Vegas - fyrir mafķuna. Allen Dulles, sem er öllum įhugamönnum um samsęriskenningar eša Kalda strķšiš aš góšu kunnur, lagši blessun sķna yfir samstarf meš mafķunni - til aš eitra fyrir Kastró. CIA ręktaši lķka ópķum ķ Washingtonfylki. Washington Post fjallar um eiturlyfjatilraunir CIA og ašrar tilraunir meš "mind control":

The CIA was eager to examine the use of dangerous pharmaceutical drugs to modify the behavior of targeted individuals, and so it asked commercial drug manufacturers to pass along samples of medicines rejected for commercial sale "because of unfavorable side effects," according to an undated memorandum included in dozens of CIA documents released yesterday.

Another document, dated May 8, 1973, mentions the existence of a 1963 account of agency scientists administering mind- or personality-altering drugs on "unwitting subjects" -- that is, testing hallucinogens such as LSD on people without their knowledge. The document doesn't provide details.

Mikiš af skjölunum sem gerš voru upptęk höfšu žó veriš svert śt, svo žaš er aldrei aš vita hverju öšru CIA fann upp į:

One memo that lists the most damaging secrets contained in "the family jewels" is missing its first paragraph. A separate memo that is supposed to summarize the "unusual activities" of the CIA's domestic branch includes just three paragraphs followed by 17 blacked-out pages.

We are this deep, I think...Ķ gęr gaf skrifstofa Cheney śt opinbera śtskżringu varaforsetans į žvķ af hverju hann žurfi ekki aš fara aš lögum um mešferš leynilegra upplżsinga. Fyrsta śtskżring "vara"forsetans var aš hann vęri ekki hluti framkvęmdavaldsins, žvķ varaforsetinn er lķka forseti öldungadeilarinnar. Hann vęri žvķ raunverulega hluti af löggjafarvaldinu...

Samkvęmt bréfi yfirmanns ISOO til dómsmįlarįšuneytisins (sem hęgt er aš lesa hér) hélt Cheney žvķ fram, hann vęri ekki

"[an] entity within the executive branch that comes into the possession of classified information"

Fyrir utan aš vera heimskuleg er žessi skżring ķ beinni mótsögn viš fyrri yfirlżsingar Cheney, sem hefur til žessa neitaš aš lśta eftirliti žingsins eša gefa žinginu upplżsingar um starfsemi sķna, į žeim grundvelli aš hann sé hluti framkvęmdavaldsins, en forsetinn hefur "executive privilige" sem į aš tryggja aš löggjafarvaldiš sé ekki aš seilast inn į valdsviš framkvęmdavaldsins. Dana Milbank į Washington Post:

Cheney has refused to comply with an order governing the care of classified documents; his office concluded that the order does not apply because he is not “an entity within the executive branch.”

That’s quite opposite the argument Cheney made in 2001, when he said that a congressional probe into the workings of his energy task force “would unconstitutionally interfere with the functioning of the executive branch.” Cheney has, in effect, declared himself to be neither fish nor fowl but an exotic, extraconstitutional beast who answers to no one.

Žessi röksemdafęrsla var svo vitlaus aš meira aš segja Dana Perino, talsmašur Hvķta Hśssins įtti ķ mestu erfišleikum meš aš réttlęta hana:

The explanatory task fell to White House spokeswoman Dana Perino, whose skin reddened around her neck and collar as she pleaded ignorance during the daily briefing: "I'm not a legal scholar. . . . I'm not opining on his argument that his office is making. . . . I don't know why he made the arguments that he did."

"It's a little surreal," remarked Keith Koffler of Congress Daily.

"You're telling me," Perino agreed.

Žaš fer žvķ eftir žvķ hvašan vindar blįsa hvort varaforsetaembęttiš tilheyrir framkvęmda- eša löggjafarvaldinu. Varaforsetinn viršist lķka sjįlfur hafa įttaš sig į aš žessi skżring héldi ekki vatni. Žessvegna gaf skrifstofa hans śt nżja skżringu ķ gęr:

Vice President Cheney’s office offered its first public written explanation yesterday for its refusal to comply with an executive order regulating the handling of classified material, arguing that the order makes clear that the vice president is not subject to the oversight system it creates for federal agencies.

In a letter to Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), Cheney Chief of Staff David S. Addington wrote that the order treats the vice president the same as the president and distinguishes them both from “agencies” subject to the oversight provisions of the executive order.

Addington did not cite specific language in the executive order supporting this view, and a Cheney spokeswoman could not point to such language last night.

Tony Snow endurtók žessa skżringu į blašamannafundi Hvķta Hśssins:

“Well, keep in mind, what you’re talking about here is an executive order that involves compliance within the executive branch, but it also says that basically for the purposes of the executive order, the President and the Vice President’s offices are not considered ‘agencies’ and, therefore, are not subject to the regulations.”

Reglugeršin gildir um, samkvęmt sjöttu grein, fyrsta liš, a:

"Agency" means any "Executive agency," as defined in 5 U.S.C. 105; any "Miltary department" as defined in 5 U.S.C. 102; and any other entity within the executive branch that comes into the possession of classified informaton.

Žaš er ekkert ķ reglugeršinni sem segir aš forsetinn megi sjįlfur įkveša hvort hann fari eftir henni eša ekki - enda hefur forsetaembęttiš vķst fariš eftir žessari reglugerš hingaš til. Ef forsetinn hefši gert ętlast til žess aš reglugeršin nęši ekki til varaforsetans hefši honum veriš ķ lófa lagiš aš setja um žaš įkvęši. En žaš var ekki gert.

Og ķ žvķ felst vandinn. Bush og Cheney viršast trśa žvķ aš žeir megi velja og hafna hvaša lögum eša reglum žeir fara eftir. Réttarrķki eru hins vegar byggš į žeirri hugmynd aš sömu lög gildi um alla, lķka valdhafana. Og žegar Cheney reyndi aš fį ISOO, sem įtti aš hafa eftirlit meš žvķ aš hann mešhöndlaši leynilegar upplżsingar, lagt nišur, opinberaši hann hitt meginvandamįl stjórnarinnar: Bush og Cheney trśa žvķ aš ķ valdi forsetaembęttisins séu žeir undanžegnir öllu eftirliti.

Demokratar leggja til aš skrifstofa Cheney verši skorin af fjįrlögum, enda sé hann ekki rķkisstofnun...

Bloggarar og blašamenn elska žessa mynd af Cheney...Eftir aš žaš komst ķ hįmęli aš Dick Cheney hefši haldiš žvķ fram aš hann vęri hvorki hluti framkvęmda- né löggjafarvaldsns hafa fréttaskżrendur og įhugamenn um stjórnmįl veriš aš reyna aš įtta sig į žvķ hvaš Cheney vęri. Demokratar į Bandarķkjažingi hafa įkvešiš aš nota fjįrveitingarvald žingsins til aš fį nišurstöšu ķ žetta mįl: (Raw Story):

Following Vice President Dick Cheney's assertion that his office is not a part of the executive branch of the US government, Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) plans to introduce an amendment to the the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill to cut funding for Cheney's office.

The amendment to the bill that sets the funding for the executive branch will be considered next week in the House of Representatives.

"The Vice President has a choice to make. If he believes his legal case, his office has no business being funded as part of the executive branch," said Emanuel in a statement released to RAW STORY. "However, if he demands executive branch funding he cannot ignore executive branch rules. At the very least, the Vice President should be consistent. This amendment will ensure that the Vice President's funding is consistent with his legal arguments."

Samkvęmt frétt Roll Call hefur Cheney fengiš nęrri fimm milljón dollara į fjįrlögum hvers įrs til rekstur skrifstofunnar. Hvķta Hśsiš hefur įtt ķ mestu vandręšum meš aš śtskżra stöšu Cheney innan stjórnkerfisins, eša hvaš hann eigi eiginlega viš žegar hann žykist hvorki vera hluti framkvęmdavaldsins eša lögjafarvaldsins:
At a press briefing yesterday, White House Deputy Press Secretary Dana Perino said that Cheney's assertion that he operates outside of the executive branch of government was "an interesting constitutional question that people can debate" and a "non-issue."
Hvaš į eiginlega aš ręša? Er žetta mjög flókin spurning? Reyndar viršist dómsmįlarįšuneytiš lķka eiga ķ erfišleikum meš aš svara žvķ hvort varaforsetinn sé hluti framkvęmdavaldsins. Žetta fįrįnlega mįl allt, sem Perino, talsmanni Hvķta Hśssins finnst vera "a non-issue" kom upp į yfirboršiš eftir aš Cheney neitaši aš veita the Information Security Oversight Office, aš skrifstofu sinni. ISOO er hluti Rķkisskjalasafnsins, og hefur eftirlit meš žvķ aš leynileg gögn og skjöl sem geyma rķkisleyndarmįl séu varšveitt į samkvęmt reglum sem forsetinn sjįlfur hefur gefiš śt. Samkvęmt žessum reglum į ISOO aš hafa eftirlit meš öllum skrifstofum, deildum eša öšrum sjįlfstęšum einingum innan framkvęmdavaldsins sem starfa meš, eša hafa ašgang aš leynilegum upplżsingum. Styrinn stóš ekki um aš einhverjir bjśrókratar og skjalaveršir fengju aš róta ķ skśffunum į skrifborši Cheney: Cheney neitaši aš gefa upp statistķk! New York times:

...after repeatedly refusing to comply with a routine annual request from the archives for data on his staff’s classification of internal documents, the vice president’s office in 2004 blocked an on-site inspection of records that other agencies of the executive branch regularly go through.

... starting in 2003, the vice president’s office began refusing to supply the information. In 2004, it blocked an on-site inspection by Mr. Leonard’s office that was routinely carried out across the government to check whether documents were being properly labeled and safely stored.

Žetta er frekar einfalt mįl: Cheney, sem varaforseti Bandarķkjanna, er hluti framkvęmdavaldsins, ISOO į aš hafa eftirlit meš mešferš framkvęmdavaldsns į leynilegum skjölum. Eftir aš Cheney meinaši ISOO aš fį aš kanna mešferš į skjölum baš stofnunin žvķ dómsmįlarįšuneytiš um śrskurš ķ žessu mįli. (Ķ millitķšinni reyndi Cheney svo aš fį ISOO lagt nišur, en sś tilraun mistókst...) Dómsmįlarįšuneytiš segist vera aš "skoša mįliš":
In January, Mr. Leonard (yfirmašur ISOO) wrote to Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales asking that he resolve the question. Erik Ablin, a Justice Department spokesman, said last night, “This matter is currently under review in the department.”

Dómsmįlarįšuneytiš var spurt ķ janśar sķšastlišnum hvort varaforsetaembęttiš vęri hluti framkvęmdavaldsins eša ekki - fimm mįnušum sķšar hefur Alberto Gonzales ekki getaš gert upp hug sinn!

Cheney og pyntingapólķtķk bandarķkjastjórnar: lķnan dregin viš aš grafa fanga lifandi...

urr...Washington Post birti grein tvö ķ greinaflokki um "vara"forseta Bandarikjanna, Dick Cheney - og bloggarar hér vestra hafa žegar skrifaš ótal fęrslur upp śr žessari grein, enda af nógu aš taka. Samkvęmt WaPo getum viš t.d. žakkaš Cheney fyrir aš Bandarķkin hafi įkvešiš aš žaš vęri góš hugmynd aš sökkva į sama ömurlega skķtaplan og andstęšingarnir ķ röšum "ķslamófasista", og pynta fanga:

Shortly after the first accused terrorists reached the U.S. naval prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on Jan. 11, 2002, a delegation from CIA headquarters arrived in the Situation Room. The agency presented a delicate problem to White House counsel Alberto R. Gonzales, a man with next to no experience on the subject. Vice President Cheney's lawyer, who had a great deal of experience, sat nearby. ... "The CIA guys said, 'We're going to have some real difficulties getting actionable intelligence from detainees'" if interrogators confined themselves to humane techniques allowed by the Geneva Conventions.

From that moment, well before previous accounts have suggested, Cheney turned his attention to the practical business of crushing a captive's will to resist. The vice president's office played a central role in shattering limits on coercion of prisoners in U.S. custody, commissioning and defending legal opinions that the Bush administration has since portrayed as the initiatives, months later, of lower-ranking officials.

Stjórnin hefur hingaš til “reynt aš sannfęra almenning um aš hśn hafi ekki įtt frumkvęši aš žvķ aš pynta fanga - žvķ žaš lķtur ķlla śt. Blašamenn og fréttaskżrendur hafa helst eignaš Alberto Gonzales žann vafasama heišur aš hafa veriš helsti talsmašur pyntinga innan stjórnarinnar - meš žvķ aš bendla Cheney viš pyntingapólisķuna og einbeittan vilja stjórnarinnar til aš traška į Genfarsįttmįlanum er Washington Post aš fęra sökina nęr forsetanum sjįlfum.

David S. Addington, Cheney's general counsel, set the new legal agenda in a blunt memorandum shortly after the CIA delegation returned to Langley. Geneva's "strict limits on questioning of enemy prisoners," he wrote on Jan. 25, 2002, hobbled efforts "to quickly obtain information from captured terrorists."

No longer was the vice president focused on procedural rights, such as access to lawyers and courts. The subject now was more elemental: How much suffering could U.S. personnel inflict on an enemy to make him talk? Cheney's lawyer feared that future prosecutors, with motives "difficult to predict," might bring criminal charges against interrogators or Bush administration officials.

Stjórnin komst sķšan aš žvķ žeir gętu skilgreint pyntingar nokkurnveginn eins og žeim sżndist hverju sinni, og ķ hinu fręga "torture memo" voru pyntingar skilgreindar žannig: "equivalent in intensity" to the pain of "organ failure ..... or even death." Semsagt, Hvķta hśsiš vildi halda žvķ fram aš mešan fanginn er ekki beinlķnis myrtur į stašnum eru žaš ekki pyntingar. Cheney vildi samt fį aš ganga lengra:

The vice president’s lawyer advocated what was considered the memo’s most radical claim: that the president may authorize any interrogation method, even if it crosses the line of torture. U.S. and treaty laws forbidding any person to “commit torture,” that passage stated, “do not apply” to the commander in chief, because Congress “may no more regulate the President’s ability to detain and interrogate enemy combatants than it may regulate his ability to direct troop movements on the battlefield.”

Af žvķ aš forsetinn er alvaldur keisari?

That same day, Aug. 1, 2002, Yoo signed off on a second secret opinion, the contents of which have never been made public. According to a source with direct knowledge, that opinion approved as lawful a long list of specific interrogation techniques proposed by the CIA — including waterboarding, a form of near-drowning that the U.S. government classified as a war crime in 1947.

The opinion drew the line against one request: threatening to bury a prisoner alive.

Hugsa sér: Žaš eru žó einhver takmörk! Vonandi hefur Hvķta Hśsiš lķka tekiš afstöšu gegn žvķ aš fangar séu sošnir lifandi eša žeir neyddir sķšan til aš éta hvorn annan? Žaš sem er ótrślegast er aš Hvķta Hśsiš skuli yfirhöfuš veriš aš velta žvķ fyrir sér hvort ekki vęri ķ lagi aš hóta föngum žvķ aš žeir yršu grafnir lifandi. Žaš sem grein Washington Post leišir žó ķ ljós er aš skiptar skošanir voru innan rķkisstjórnarinnar į įgęti žessarar villimennsku:

On June 8, 2004, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice and Secretary of State Colin L. Powell learned of the two-year-old torture memo for the first time from an article in The Washington Post. According to a former White House official with firsthand knowledge, they confronted Gonzales together in his office. Rice "very angrily said there would be no more secret opinions on international and national security law," the official said, adding that she threatened to take the matter to the president if Gonzales kept them out of the loop again. Powell remarked admiringly, as they emerged, that Rice dressed down the president's lawyer "in full Nurse Ratched mode," a reference to the ward chief of a mental hospital in the 1975 film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." Neither of them took their objections to Cheney, the official said, a much more dangerous course.

Žaš žorir nefnilega enginn aš confrontera Cheney - sem vilar ekki fyrir sér aš skjóta vini sķna ķ andlitiš!

Skuggarįšuneyti Dick Cheney

Cheney ķ Meet the Press - sennilega aš tala um hryšjuverkaógnina og yellow cake śranķum, og mushroom clowds... mašur elskar nefnilega heimsendi!Ķ Washington Post birtist ķ gęr fyrsti kaflinn ķ višamikilli rannsókn blašsins į umsvifum 'vara' forseta Bandarķkjanna Richard Bruce Cheney - greinin er skyldulesning fyrir alla sem hafa įhuga į Bandarķskum stjórnmįlum og įstandi Bandarķkjanna. Žaš er aušvitaš margt forvitnilegt ķ žessari grein, en žaš merkilegasta og ótrślegasta er kannski aš Cheney hefur lįtiš starfsmenn sķna njósna um ašra starfsmenn Hvķta Hśssins! meš öšrum oršum: Cheney rekur alvöru skuggarįšuneyti innan Hvķta Hśssins. Žetta vald hefur Cheney sķšan notaš til aš koma ķ veg fyrir aš ašrir en hann hefšu ašgang aš forsetanum, og til aš tryggja aš sķn sjónarhorn yršu ętiš ofanį. Śr grein Washington Post:

Cheney preferred, and Bush approved, a mandate that gave him access to ‘every table and every meeting,’ making his voice heard in ‘whatever area the vice president feels he wants to be active in.’ ... At the White House, [White House national security lawyer John] Bellinger sent Rice a blunt — and, he thought, private — legal warning. The Cheney-Rumsfeld position would place the president indisputably in breach of international law and would undermine cooperation from allied governments. …

One lawyer in his office said that Bellinger was chagrined to learn, indirectly, that Cheney had read the confidential memo and “was concerned” about his advice. Thus Bellinger discovered an unannounced standing order: Documents prepared for the national security adviser, another White House official said, were “routed outside the formal process” to Cheney, too. The reverse did not apply.

Powell asked for a meeting with Bush. The same day, Jan. 25, 2002, Cheney’s office struck a preemptive blow. It appeared to come from Gonzales, a longtime Bush confidant whom the president nicknamed “Fredo.” Hours after Powell made his request, Gonzales signed his name to a memo that anticipated and undermined the State Department’s talking points. The true author has long been a subject of speculation, for reasons including its unorthodox format and a subtly mocking tone that is not a Gonzales hallmark.

A White House lawyer with direct knowledge said Cheney’s lawyer, Addington, wrote the memo. Flanigan passed it to Gonzales, and Gonzales sent it as “my judgment” to Bush. If Bush consulted Cheney after that, the vice president became a sounding board for advice he originated himself.

Žaš kemur svosem ekki į óvart aš Alberto Gonzales sé ķ innsta hring žessa "rįšuneytis". Ef marka mį grein blašsins ķ dag viršist Gonzales kerfisbundiš hafa stutt Cheney žegar kom aš vafasamri śtženslu hans į umsvifum og įhrifum innan stjórnkerfisins. Og ķ öllum tilfellum viršist ašalatrišiš vera aš Cheney neitar aš veita öšrum ašgang aš upplżsingum um hvaš hann er aš ašhafast - leyniskżrslur sem hann skrifar um viškvęm mįl, t.d. utanrķkismįl, en jafnvel umhverfismįl, fyrir forsetann og fara ekki į ešlilegan mįta ķ gegn um stjórnkerfiš.

Walter Reed enn ķ fréttum: Öryggisveršir ķ skotbardaga, viš hvorn annan!

Bush heimsękir hermenn į Walter ReedĶ gęrkvöld bįrust fréttir af skotbardaga fyrir utan Walter Reed herspķtalann - en sį spķtali viršist vera eitt af fordyrum helvķtis (sjį fyrri fęrslur mķnar um Walter Reed frį žvķ įšan, og svo hér og hér):

WASHINGTON -- An armed security guard fired at least 10 shots at another guard during an argument outside a busy entrance to Walter Reed Army Medical Center early Wednesday, police said. No one was hurt.

"This was rush hour on a busy thoroughfare. There were cars and pedestrians in the line of fire," said police Cmdr. Hilton Burton. At least two parked cars across the street were hit.

Öryggisvöršurinn skaut alls tķu skotum aš einum af samstarfsmönnum sķnum:

The guard who was fired upon ran to a nearby house to call police. The other guard, Dwan Thigpen, 34, of Fort Washington, Md., was arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder. He was scheduled to appear in court Thursday, police said. Police and jail officials did not know whether Thigpen had an attorney.

Öryggisverširnir vinna fyrir eitt af verktakafyrirtękjunum sem hafa tekiš aš sér aš endurskapa į Walter Reed alla ömuršina og hörmungarnar sem hermennirnir eiga aš venjast frį Ķrak. Yfirmenn Walter Reed hafa lķklega sest į fund og įkvešiš aš sjśklingarnir söknušu kaotķskra og óvęntra skotbardaga?

The guards worked for Vance Federal Security Services, said Joe Gavaghan, a spokesman for the company, which contracts with Walter Reed. Vance is "cooperating with authorities investigating this incident," said Gavaghan, adding that the company could not provide additional details.

He had committed suicide in his room at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Walter Reed staff did not find him until at least two days after his death, and only then at the insistence of his family, who were desperate to locate their son.

In their first network television interview since their son's death, Carol and Richard Coons sat down with me to talk about their family's anger and quest for answers. "They didn't take care of my son. They just didn't take care of him," Carol said ...

"He had three doctors' appointments scheduled. He didn't make any of those three appointments, and no one came to check on him," Richard said, and by this time, the family was becoming increasingly concerned, and made repeated phone calls trying to track down information about the whereabouts of James.

But, the family said, no one at Walter Reed seemed willing to make the effort to check on him.

Žegar fréttir bįrust fyrst af óžrifnaši og ömurlegri ašstöšu į Walter Reed voru Repśblķkanar og margir hęgrimenn fljótir aš grķpa til velęfšra afsakana og "talking points": Óstjórnin į Walter Reed sannaši hversu slęmt vęri aš rķkiš veitti heilbrigšisžjónustu.

Eina vandamįliš var aš almennur rekstur spķtalans - višhald og hreingerningar voru alls ekki rķkisrekin, heldur hafši žessi starfsemi veriš "einkavędd". Reyndar var hśn einkavędd meš sama hętti og Bush stjórnin hefur kosiš aš einkavęša: Fyrirtęki tengt Halliburton fékk verkefniš afhent ķ lokušu og mjög sérkennilegu "śtboši". Žetta fyrirtęki tók snarlega aš "hagręša" ķ rekstrinum, sem fólst ašallega ķ aš reka starfsfólk meš reynslu (žvķ žaš var į hęrri launum) og rįša óreynt og ódżrt vinnuafl. Skv. bréfi Henry Waxman, formanns House Oversight Committee:

It would be reprehensible if the deplorable conditions were caused or aggravated by an ideological committment to privatized government services regardless of the costs to taxpayers and the consequences for wounded soldier

Žaš svķviršilegasta ķ žessu öllu er aš starfsmenn spķtalans höfšu sjįlfir gert tilboš ķ aš sjį um žrif ķ verktöku, en tilboši žeirra var hafnaš - žó žaš vęri lęgra en tilboš IAP! Spķtalayfirvöld (herinn, ž.e.) geršu ķ millitķšinni engar rįšstafanir til aš bśa spitalann undir aš taka į móti slösušum hermönnum - žó ljóst vęri aš Bandarķkin vęru ķ strķši og fyrri reynsla kenndi okkur aš ķ strķši slasast hermenn... Ašalsökin liggur žvķ ekki hjį "einkarekstri" heldur óstjórn og vanhęfni yfirmanna og stjórnvalda sem lįta einkavinapot og ķdeólógķu stjórna öllum gjöršum sķnum.

Žaš hafa lķka borist fréttir af žvķ aš sjśklingar į Walter Reed fįi ekki póst afhentan. Og ętli žaš sé žį hęgt aš kenna rķkisrekinni póst- eša heilbrigšisžjónustu um? Nei, žvķ póstdreifing į Walter Reed var lķka "einkarekin". (Skv. AP, og Military.com)

The Army said Friday that it has opened an investigation into the recent discovery of 4,500 letters and parcels - some dating to May 2006 - at Walter Reed that were never delivered to Soldiers.

And it fired the contract employee who ran the mailroom.

Allir sem voru višrišnir mįliš hafa hingaš til boriš viš minnisleysi - sérstaklega Gonzales sem žykist ekki muna eftir fundum sem hann žó man aš hafa setiš... Į sama tķma benda skjöl sem gerš hafa veriš opinber til žess aš Hvķta Hśsiš (ž.e. forsetinn eša Karl Rove) hafi stżrt hreinsuninni.

Tony Snow segir enn of snemmt aš segja til um hvort Hvķta Hśsiš muni sinna žessum stefnum, eša hvort forsetinn muni reyna aš koma ķ veg fyrir aš Meiers og Taylor beri vitni, og žį draga žetta mįl allt fyrir dómstóla. LA Times (sem fjallar ķtarlegar um žetta mįl en WaPo) segir ólķklegt aš forsetinn myndi bera sigur ef til žess kęmi:

Except in cases involving national security or military secrets, the executive branch enjoys no absolute privilege to withhold documents from Congress. ... Some legal experts said they believe that Congress would prevail in any court fight over the U.S. attorney documents.

Peter M. Shane, an expert at the Ohio State University law school on the separation of powers. ... said that conditions the White House has insisted on before making officials available for questioning appear unreasonable. The current White House counsel, Fred F. Fielding, has agreed to permit officials to answer questions from members of Congress but only if the testimony is private, unsworn and there is no transcript.

"Saying that the investigation can proceed but not with an oath or transcript, I think, is a ridiculous offer," Shane said. "If there cannot be a firm record of what is actually said, then it is quite literally a pointless investigative technique. If I were advising the majority counsel on either side, I cannot imagine accepting that offer. It is worse than nothing."

Hvķta Hśsiš ķ valdatķš Bush hefur nefnilega reynt aš halda žvķ til streitu aš žingiš hafi akkśrat engin völd til aš hafa eftirlit meš starfsemi framkvęmdavaldsins sem megi fara sķnu fram, nokkurnveginn óhįš žvķ hvaš lög eša dómstólar segja. Og ķ mišjunni į žessu sitja žeir saman, Gonzales og Bushie.

Žó Gonzales hafi sloppiš fyrir horn į mįnudaginn žegar repśblķkönum tókst aš "filibustera" vantrauststillögu demokrata er žvķ ljóst aš Gonzalesgate į eftir aš skemmta okkur ķ allt sumar!

Ķmyndašir og raunverulegir hryšjuverkamenn

Terror! Terror! Terror! Terror! Ad infinitumSamkvęmt tölum Fósturjaršarvarnarrįšuneytisins eru semsagt rétt 0.0015% mįlshöfšana žeirra į hendur hryšjuverkamönnum, sem er mun minna en 0.01%... Aš vķsu lögsękir žetta Fósturjaršarrįšuneyti fólk fyrir fleira en hryšjuverk:

The report found "national security" charges also made up a miniscule number of those brought by DHS. Only 114 -- or 0.014 percent -- of charges carried that designation.

0.0155% mįla rįšuneytisins geta žvķ talist tengjast öryggi og vörnum fósturjaršarinnar. Žaš er svo skemmtilegt aš benda į aš žegar Bush kynnti stofnun Department of Homeland Security 2002 notaši hann oršiš "hryšjuverk" alls 19 sinnum, ž.e. oftar en rįšuneytiš hefur getaš fundiš grunaša hryšjuverkamenn:

When he announced the creation of a new Department of Homeland Security in 2002, President Bush invoked the fight against "terror" or "terrorists" 19 times in a single speech. That's more mentions than there have been terrorism charges brought by the department in the last three years, according to an independent analysis of DHS records.

85% mįla rįšuneytisins snśa aš mun ómerkilegri glępum:

More than 85 percent of the charges brought by the department created in the wake of 9/11 to protect the country from terrorists involved common immigration violations such as overstaying a student visa or entering the United States without inspection.

The Alabama Department of Homeland Security has taken down a website it operated that included gay-rights and antiwar organizations in a list of groups that could include terrorists.

The website identified different types of terrorists and included a list of groups it suggested could spawn terrorists. The list also included environmentalists, animal rights advocates and abortion opponents.

The director of the department, Jim Walker, said his agency received calls and e-mails from people who said they felt the site unfairly targeted certain people because of their beliefs. He said he planned to reinstate the website but would no longer identify specific types of groups.

Samkvęmt žessum snillingum eru umhverfisverndarsinnar og fólk sem berst fyrir réttindum samkynhneigšra "Single issue extremists". Frišarsinnar eru aušvitaš lķka "Single issue extremists". Heimasķšan śtskżrši žetta hugtak žannig:

Single-issue extremists often focus on issues that are important to all of us. However, they have no problem crossing the line between legal protest and … illegal acts, to include even murder, to succeed in their goals...

Žessar fréttir birtust bįšar nśna um helgina og ęttu aš minna okkur į hversu hęttulegt žaš getur veriš aš heyja strķš gegn óskilgreindum óvin, og veita rķkisvaldinu nęrri ótakmarkaš vald til žess aš heyja žaš strķš eins og žvķ sżnist. Žaš gildir einu hvaš okkur finnst um andstęšinga fóstureyšinga eša umhverfisverndarsinna: viš hljótum öll aš geta veriš sammįla um aš žaš fólk į ekki heima ķ sama flokki og Al-Qaeda. Aušvitaš eru til vitfirringar ķ röšum umhverfisverndarsinna og andstęšinga fóstureyšinga - fólk sem gęti ķ snappaš og fariš aš drepa samborgara sķna.  En žaš sama mį segja um enskudeildir hįskóla, menntaskólanema sem sękja keiluhallir eša trśrękin ungmenni ķ kristilegum hįskólum.
